Carolyn Nagy

Carolyn Bedrosian Nagy joined the Executive Team at Mural Arts in January 2023 with an expanded role as Senior Director of Development, overseeing the Development Department and the Mural Arts Board and participating in strategic initiatives across the organization. Nagy joined Mural Arts in 2021 as the Director of Development. In this role, she oversees all of the fundraising efforts for Mural Arts’ $15 million budget, including individual giving, corporate giving, foundation grantmaking, and government grants.

Before joining Mural Arts, Nagy spent 15 years at Sotheby’s, the world’s largest auction house. As Vice President, Mid-Atlantic Regional Director, Nagy oversaw and negotiated all major business from Virginia to New Jersey. Nagy worked closely with private clients who were building collections or deaccessioning works of art. She also oversaw all corporate and museum relationships and was a part-time member of the Fiduciary Client Group, focused on Trusts & Estates. During her tenure at Sotheby’s, Nagy played a significant role in over a dozen single-owner collection sales, including the Estate of John du Pont, the Estate of William B. Dietrich, the Estate of William K. du Pont, the Estate of Martin & Kathleen Field, and the Estate of Elinor Gordon. Nagy actively worked with clients on the public and private sale of major works of art, including works by Paul Cezanne, Pablo Picasso, Claude Monet, Edgar Degas, Gerhard Richter, Andy Warhol, Georg Baselitz, Barkley Hendricks, Andrew Wyeth, and many more. Nagy has particular expertise in Contemporary Art, Impressionist & Modern Art, American Art, 20th Century Design, American Furniture & Decorations, European Furniture & Decorations, and Jewelry. Nagy is USPAP-certified as an appraiser.

Nagy holds a master’s in Decorative Arts, Design, and Culture from the Bard Graduate Center. She has written and lectured on collecting habits and artistic markets during the Gilded Age in America. She also holds a BA in Art and Art History from Colgate University. Nagy actively participates on committees for many of Philadelphia’s arts organizations, including the Women’s Committee of the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, the European Decorative Arts Committee at the Philadelphia Museum of Art (PMA), and The Philadelphia Show Committee, also associated with PMA. Nagy is also a licensed auctioneer and performs charity auctions.
