James “Chip” Thomas is a North Carolina native who moved to the Navajo Nation in 1987 to work as an Indian Health Services Physician. A self taught black and white photographer, he works in his homemade darkroom. A 12,000 mile transcontinental African bicycle expedition in 1992 earned him and four other physicians a Guinness World Record. Thomas has spent 15 years and counting documenting Navajo nation and feels indebted to it’s people for the life lessons they’ve taught him.
