About the Artist and His Projects 

Brian Bazemore is a self-taught visual artist who has been making art in his community for over thirty years. He often works with paint, photos, metal, text, found objects, and organic materials to create installations, sculptures, paintings, and mixed media artworks. He enjoys teaching young people art history, color, and form at various art programs throughout Philadelphia. He views himself as an artists’ artist — a visual storyteller whose work is rooted in the physical and emotional environment of his life, family, and community.

My art this past year has been influenced by the continued killing of Black/African American People in America. This piece addresses a myriad of issues as they pertain to black lives. BLM (Black Lives Matter) is repeated innumerable times on the canvas to reiterate the significance of this slogan. This work was rendered in the black liberation colors of red, black, and green. This piece is a tribute to those sacrificed as a result of racial profiling, an unjust judicial system and those slaughtered in the recent Charleston church shootings. It serves as an emblem of a call to arms for all those who oppose racism and the insidious crimes committed under its banner.
