About the Mural: This innovative partnership with South of South Neighborhood Association (SOSNA) created a new ground mural meant to improve the safety of four intersections at two public elementary schools, Edwin Stanton and Chester Arthur. The mural was created by artist Calo Rosa, and involves curb “bulb-outs,” highly visible painted pedestrian areas, and vertical delineators to protect crosswalk areas. This will, in turn, protect children crossing the street by making them more visible to oncoming traffic, reducing crossing distance, and slowing drivers at intersections. The street mural in each of these protected pedestrian areas aims to help draw greater awareness to pedestrians and contribute to neighborhood place-making.
