SHOT: We The Mothers Press Event

Mural Arts Philadelphia has partnered with SHOT: We the People to create a public art exhibition of 30 large-scale vinyl photographs from the project to be shown on the Saunders Park iron fence directly across the street from Penn Presbyterian Medical Center. SHOT: We the People, a multi-media platform where users can interact and share their stories about gun violence in America, presents its first project on the SHOT platform, SHOT: We the Mothers (SWTM). 

SWTM is a photography documentary by Kathy Shorr featuring 51 mothers who have lost children to gun violence in the Philadelphia area. The women were photographed at locations of their choice, which hold a special meaning to their children. Photographs of mementos from the children are also included in the project. The text associated with the project is from the mothers’ social media posts, unfiltered in their descriptions of what they are facing.

Funders for this project included the City of Philadelphia and partners for this project included People’s Emergency Center and Penn Presbyterian Medical Center.
