Join us to celebrate The Legendary Dixie Hummingbirds in honor of the gospel quartet’s 90th anniversary! This original mural by artist Cliff Eubanks was completed in 2005 to honor the influential Dixie Hummingbirds, just a block away from the Metropolitan Opera House where they often performed in the 1970s.
We’ll also be announcing a new mural project to celebrate Sister Rosetta Tharpe, the godmother of rock and roll, who performed with the Dixie Hummingbirds on gospel caravan shows and lived in Philadelphia during the 1960s. While living in Philadelphia, she did some of her finest recordings, releasing five LPs and gaining a Grammy nomination with her 1968 album Precious Memories. It’ll be a day full of music to remember!
