Mural Dedication: Frequencies by Benjamin Volta

On September 2, please join Mural Arts Philadelphia and The Dow Chemical Company as we dedicate Frequencies, the latest mural by 2015 Pew Fellow Benjamin Volta.

Since last December, students participating in Mural Arts’ after-school program at The Lenfest Center in Hunting Park have been exploring the generative power of art and science with artist Benjamin Volta. Inspired by the new Your Brain exhibit at the Franklin Institute, the students were challenged to see the potential in developing positive patterns that are visually interesting and beautiful. In the resulting mural, the complex patterns occupying the interior space of the youth portraits draw from a rigorous trial and error exploration in pattern making and pattern recognition. Frequencies is a result of a collaborative process, with every student contributing to its making and composition like a jazz ensemble of creative thought.
