Book Launch with Shira Walinsky

Join us to celebrate two new publications from artist Shira Walinsky, developed in collaboration with teachers Amanda Feigel from Northeast High School and Tiffany Lorch from Furness High School; many students, women, and translators; and Jessica Whitelaw, Penn GSE professor. The books are the results of with Free Speecha Monument Lab project that created space for immigrant and refugee stories in southeast Philadelphia. From Here to There is a photography-based book featuring refugee women, and We Made It and Will Make It includes poetry by immigrant and refugee teens.

This event will feature poetry readings, discussions of the captivating images, and a panel from those who helped make these books possible. Light refreshments to follow.

This event is co-hosted by ISSS, Mural Arts Philadelphia, and Perry World House, and co-sponsored by Penn Design and Penn Undergraduates for Refugee Empowerment (TBC).
