About the Project

West African immigrants and African American communities in Southwest Philadelphia came together to create Bridging the Gap. Neighbors worked together with artist Willis “Nomo” Humphrey to address the discord in their community and co-create a visual representation of their relationship building efforts. The final design paints a collective story about overcoming conflict and perceived stereotypes, accepting commonalities as well as differences, and finally, healing.
