Our Favorite Moments of Mural Arts Month 2018

It’s still sinking in, but Mural Arts Month 2018 has officially concluded. We made so many memories around the city, from testing out an augmented reality mural to reimagining the pathways of reentry—from thoughtful conversations around trauma-informed art to celebrations of our city’s forgotten heroes. We reached close to 5,000 people at more than 35 events, and made 700K+ digital impressions on social media ?

As the days get shorter and colder, these memories will carry us through. Take a look back with us on some of our favorite moments.

On October 4, we dedicated a new gathering space at the Southwark School! @basuramaoficial, a Spain-based artist collective, planned, designed, and produced the space with community members through Mural Arts’ Environmental Justice initiative, using planters and seating made out of repurposed school desks. That same day, we also dedicated a series of mini-murals inspired by the theme of “sharing culture,” by artist @jamesaarondone and local youth. These projects are part of the larger vision for “Our Park,” a transformation of the entire school site.
