Mural Dedication: Why We Love Coltrane

Join us to celebrate the dedication of a new John Coltrane-inspired mural, Why We Love Coltrane, by artist Ernel Martinez. This artwork honors the life and legacy of jazz legend Coltrane, a native of Strawberry Mansion. After a 2002 Coltrane mural was sadly demolished in 2014, this new artwork by Martinez commemorates the musician on a Diamond Street wall, close to the original Coltrane home.

This event is a jazz picnic. Please bring your own blanket or chairs.

This event is also a presentation of Celebrating Coltrane 2017, in collaboration with the Free Library of Philadelphia, WRTI, PhillyCAM, WPPM, Fairmount Park Conservancy, Philadelphia Parks & Recreation Outdoor Experience Program, South Jazz Cafe, Rittenhouse Soundworks, and Jazz Near You. These events include concerts, discussions, screenings, and broadcasts and will take place between September 18th and 24th, 2017.
