Tykira works primarily in acrylic and oil paints, using color space and form to capture portraits of her subjects and models. She uses portraits as a confrontational form of group therapy asking self reflective questions and prompts to explore the past, present, and future and what healing for Black women would look like. Tykira likes to focus on topics that involve the healing and progression of Black girls in school grades, topics like the school to prison pipeline affecting black girls, Black girls self esteem, and what the future of Black girls will look like as they transition from girl to womanhood.
