Southeast by Southeast: Community-Focused Art and Solo Work by Shira Walinsky

Exhibition on View: February 5 – April 29, 2016
Opening Night Reception: February 5, 2016

Southeast by Southeast was founded in 2011 by Shira Walinsky, Melissa Fogg, and Miriam Singer as a partnership between Lutheran Children and Family Services and Mural Arts Philadelphia. What started as a six-month pop-up storefront continues in 2016. Since its inception, Southeast by Southeast has offered a safe and supportive community space for immigrant and refugee families to lean about one another, gain access to important social services, and lend their voices to public art projects. This exhibition features both Walinsky’s work and that of the Southeast by Southeast community, connecting the Chinatown North and South Philadelphia neighborhoods through cross-cultural storytelling and sharing.

Generous funding for Southeast by Southeast has been provided by the City of Philadelphia Department of Behavioral Health and Intellectual disAbility Services.
