Mural Lab Live Re-Imagined #3

Mural Lab Live Re-Imagined is a speaker series exploring the intersectionality between artistic mediums, curation, and social justice in art. Presented by Glenmede Trust Company and hosted by Mural Arts Philadelphia at Rec Philly, this Mural Arts Month speaker series will allow creatives from our past to our present and possible future to have a conversation with each other on each other’s journeys within their chosen fields and mediums and the hot topics surrounding public arts practices and policies that have been tossing around in people’s minds throughout the decades.

The Impact of Murals in Philadelphia and Beyond: Presented by the Mural Arts Institute

Mural Arts Philadelphia has a long history of investigating and realizing diverse facets of muralism while collaborating with Philadelphians to transform public space with works that beautify, inspire and empower. Today we see the increasing collection of murals in cities across the country, some of which have looked to Philadelphia for inspiration, advice, and affirmation. What is the role of murals today? How are we shaping our current understanding of murals and their impact? Join us in a conversation with representatives from cities who are expanding their mural collections while exploring the context, nature, and impact of murals in their communities.

Paul Farber, Director of Monument Lab, will facilitate this conversation including Philadelphia’s Chief Cultural Officer Val Gay, Mural Arts’ Founder and Director Jane Golden, the City of Detroit’s Director of Arts & Culture Rochelle Riley, and the City of Houston’s Civic Art Program Manager Theresa Escobedo.
