Mural Dedication: Breaking Chains

Join us to dedicate Breaking Chains, a new mural sponsored by Spak Group about black empowerment and lifting up future leaders. The original mural on this wall was painted by artist KC White, and we knew we had to recreate the mural when it was damaged in building renovations—the original artist collaborated with muralist Gabe Tiberino to come up with a new design. The mural process has involved theater workshops with Theatre in the X and our partners at Boys Latin Charter School, so come out on May 12 to dedicate the mural with a ribbon cutting and theater performance by local youth! Check out Malcolm X Park across the street for food and activities from noon to 5 p.m. as part of the Community Give Back Day hosted by Dynamite Pest Control.

The new mural features a young girl being inspired by the stories of Malcolm X, Guion Bluford, Madame CJ Walker, Harriet Tubman, Paul Robeson, and Marcus Garvey.
