Still from the short film "Nightmare," produced by Incarceration Nations Network and created by Alex Pope.
We’ve teamed up with Incarceration Nations Network for a screening and discussion of their new short film, “Nightmare,” created by Alex Pope. The six-minute film dives into the way incarceration disproportionately affects those in poverty. Lack of access to legal services, outdated legal frameworks, and the barriers of cash bail systems result in the de facto criminalization of poverty.
After the film screening, we’ll hold a panel discussion with Baz Dreisinger (Professor, John Jay College of Criminal Justice; Founding Academic Director, Prison-to-College Pipeline; Director, Incarceration Nations Network) and Bill Cobb (Deputy Director, Campaign for Smart Justice, ACLU National), moderated by Malik Yoba (actor, artist, activist and storyteller). The panel will be followed by a community discussion with additional participants from Black Lives Matter Philadelphia, The Center for Returning Citizens, Frontline Dads, Inc., the No215Jail Coalition, and the Philadelphia Community Bail Fund.
