Citizens Bank is important supporters of Mural Arts Philadelphia – especially our annual Wall Ball Fundraiser.  What inspires you to sponsor Wall Ball?

For the past 20 years, Citizens has been a proud partner of Mural Arts. By sponsoring Wall Ball, we can fund both Mural Arts’ mission and a convening event for influential leaders in Philadelphia.

Philadelphia is an arts and culture hub with world-renowned museums and is also known as the Mural Capital of the World. In what way does Citizens feel the arts and culture sector is vital to the local economy?

Through Citizens’ giving strategy, we support initiatives that lift people up, so that our local economies also succeed. Over the years, we’ve given to Mural Arts’ programs that combat homelessness, mental health stigmas, and assist returning citizens – all with the healing powers of art. Citizenship is at the heart of our company’s identity, and when people and communities reach their potential – we all thrive.

Why is it important for Citizens to support public art in the Philadelphia community? Can you recall a favorite event or project tied to Mural Arts and Citizens?

Our teams always enjoy getting together for paint days and working on a collective piece of art. But our favorite work is the mural in our bank branch at 1835 Market Street. It was completed in 2021 with input from our colleagues and visualized themes of social equity, pride for our city and the power of working together. The artist, Felix St. Fort did a beautiful job weaving these themes together through text and colors.

Public art, like this, ignites conversations and we’re honored to be a host to that in our bank.
