Mural Arts Guild program benefits from Philadelphia 76ers “Assists for Safe Communities” Initiative

Mural Arts Philadelphia Guild Program was the beneficiary of The Philadelphia 76ers “Assists for Safe Communities initiative, part of the 76ers Gun Violence Prevention platform.  In game 4 of the 76ers-Celtics Eastern Conference Semifinals series 

Jalen McDaniels and Jaden Springer teamed up on behalf of Mural Arts to make as many assists as possible, donating $760 per assist to the Guild.

Mural Arts is honored to be included as a beneficiary of this program,. We are thrilled that McDaniels and Springer made 19 assists on our behalf, raising $14,440 for Restorative Justice’s Guild Program.

Members of the Mural Arts Staff were on hand at game four to witness all the excitement. Mural Arts is thrilled to be acknowledged for its Restorative Justice paid apprenticeship program, which furthers individual development by incorporating important concepts of healing, community, and individual restoration throughout the program.

“Gun violence is a serious issue in this country. Last year alone, in Philadelphia, over 1,700 gun crimes were committed,” said 76ers Head Coach Doc Rivers. “Our coaches and players are humans, too. We all live in these communities and join the countless others that are impacted by these senseless acts. We have a responsibility, coaches and players alike, to use our platform and play our part in helping clean some of these issues up.” 

Mural Arts Philadelphia’s Guild Program is a restorative justice program that gives justice-impacted young people the opportunity to develop job skills. This experience is guided by trained professionals, allowing participants to obtain valuable life skills and job expertise.
