If You Could Hear These Walls

by: Steve Weinik

You may remember us asking you to choose 3 murals that you’d like to see set to music. Now, in partnership with the American Composers Forum, we’re putting out a call to local composers to write an original piece for each of the selected murals. Winning work will be performed at a series of community concerts at each mural site. Interested? Here are the murals:

More info from the ACF and instruction on how to apply is quoted below:

Through multiple performances at each location, audiences will experience how a change in music can bring an entirely new perspective to their perception of the mural. Through outreach events led by the composers, community members will have an opportunity to form closer connections with composers, new music, and with the mural(s) in their immediate neighborhood.

If You Could Hear These Walls is more than just a way to bring music to communities, it is also an opportunity to experience and understand the murals in unexpected ways. We hope these events will transform the perception of murals as mere public art and present them as valuable community assets capable of bringing people together.

If you are a composer and wish to apply for this opportunity, or if you know someone who might be interested, please see the Application Guidelines for details and contact information.

The deadline for applications is Monday, April 14th (11:59 p.m.)
