3 Artists to Look for at Wall Ball

by: Laura Kochman

This year, local curator and photographer Morgan Smith (@phobymo) is curating the June 7 Wall Ball art auction, and we’re so excited to see the full roster of artists that she’s invited. We love to learn about and celebrate Philly’s incredible artistic communities! We asked Morgan which emerging artists she’s most excited about including in Wall Ball 2018, and here’s what she had to say.

Stefan Suchanec (

First #doubleexposure in the new love park? #cinestill800

Stefan is an amazing film photographer in Philly who focuses mainly on photographing the city. I love his work because he can take a standard/overplayed/over-photographed location (like the LOVE statue or Ben Franklin Bridge) and capture it in a way that’s never been done before. He always puts a unique spin on his photos (usually with the use of double exposures) and it really shines a new light on this old city.

Allegra Yvonne Gia (@youngfoxblood)

Allegra is one of my favorite artists in the city. I’ve always had a great appreciation for painters because my brain literally can’t comprehend how they do it, and Allegra is no exception. Her work is rich and strong and colorful and eye-catching and dynamic. I’ve had her in all three of my Time To Pretend shows, because her work is always evolving and I’ve loved watching her grow as an artist.

Loveis Wise (@cosmicsomething)

I just recently discovered her work last March and HAD to have her in Time To Pretend. There’s something about Loveis’ work that is super empowering to me, as well as super inclusive. She became an instant favorite of mine in the city!
