About the Project
When the personal becomes public in a meaningful way, we all benefit and grow from what we learn. Designed in collaboration with participants at the Kirkbride Center, an inpatient behavioral healthcare facility in West Philadelphia, Eric Okdeh’s mural traces the process of acknowledging, accepting, and overcoming hardship. Portraits of participating patients are the major highlights of the mural’s design, with accompanying QR codes that allow viewers to access poignant individual accounts of personal journeys to healing and to listen to music created by the participants and music therapist Pamela Draper.
