Arts in Criminal Justice National Conference

In October 2007, the Mural Arts Program was proud to host the Arts in Criminal Justice National Conference. This action-packed, four-day event brought together over 250 artists, activists, judges, legislators, incarcerated and formerly incarcerated people, police and probation officers, students, young people, and many others. Conference attendees toured two prisons and saw some amazing art, including several performances and films. Most importantly, they learned from each other in an inspiring and uplifting way.

In planning the Arts in Criminal Justice National Conference, the Mural Arts Program always hoped that the momentum created by the gathering could be carried forward for the benefit of the individual practitioner, the systems that embrace arts in corrections, and the men, women, young people, and communities who are impacted by the work. Please visit the conference website for updates on the Arts in Criminal Justice Alliance, a group of national leaders created to continue the dialogue the conference began.
