The Roots 101 Series: Industry Rule #4,080
Saturday, June 23
7 - 9:00 p.m.
327 South Street

Industry rule number 4,080, according to A Tribe Called Quest co-founder Q-Tip is that “record company people are shady.” Many musicians empathize with this statement, as negotiating the myriad of legal, political, and personal channels to obtain a fair and equitable recording deal and maintain that support in the current musical climate is nearly impossible. Long ago, it was talent that got your foot in the door but times have changed and pre-packaged personas seem to be most successful. How have The Roots managed to achieve commercial success while staying true to their musical intent? What are the new rules for artists who want to build their careers?

Join an experienced panel of music industry veterans, including Marc Byers (Rockstar Entertainment), CHOPS (producer for Young Jeezy, Lil Wayne and others), Munir Nurridin (SEFG Entertainment LLC), and moderator Tayyib Smith, to discuss how to find success in stepping around, under, and over Rule Number 4,080.

DJ Ultraviolet Bee spins music for your soul before and after the discussion.

Limited seating available. RSVPs strongly encouraged.
